Continuity Camera is the macOS feature that allows to use an iPhone as a webcam.

I’ve been using it for the past couple of weeks, and this is my (rather short) review of it.

It makes sense. The iPhone is the best camera I have around, and it doesn’t require any wires.

It has tons of cool features like portrait mode, center stage, and more. You can learn more about it here.

To use it in my setup, I only needed a mount.

I ended up getting this MagSafe mount by Stouchi for ~20 USD.

What I love about it

  1. The features and practicality of it.
  2. Not having to have yet another thing plugged into my USBs (the webcam).
  3. Both the image and sound quality are pretty great.

What I hate about it

  1. It always disconnects on first use. I connect to a meeting, it works for a couple of seconds, then disconnects. I then need to re-select it or reload the page.
  2. R.I.P. my battery. 1h meeting drains around 30 to 40% of the battery.
  3. The iPhone gets pretty hot as well.

Verdict

Unsure. I might see if I can get a USB-C cable velcroed behind the monitor so it’s easy to connect it.

For now, I think I’ll keep using my shitty webcam.
